Bio:

Abby was born and raised in rural Minnesota, and she is one of seven siblings. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Bethel University in St. Paul, MN. In the years following university, she worked in the nonprofit media, marketing, and development sector with organizations in Haiti (where she lived before coming to Calvin), the UK, Uganda, and South Sudan. She feels most alive outdoors, especially in the mountains - hiking, picnicking, hanging out with her German shepherd pup, camping, and exploring new places and cultures. Abby is passionate about people and fostering spaces for them to belong, become, and dream! 

Advice 

It is okay to be unsure of a major when you start university. In fact, it’s okay to change your major several times! There are so many amazing programs here at Calvin, and picking one route early on may seem like you’re neglecting parts of who you are or what you’re passionate about. That doesn’t have to be the case! What makes your heartbeat fast? What makes you feel most alive? What are you already good at? Take all of those things under consideration, explore different programs, and ask A LOT of questions! 

Favorite Spot on Campus 

Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex! The arena has such a fun atmosphere to watch volleyball and basketball games. I also love to rock climb and work out. It’s a great place to stay active and cheer on our Knights (especially during the cold winter months)!
