Bio
Esther is from South Korea, but grew up mostly in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Canada, and New Zealand. She has grown up in many different countries and now is spending her fifth year in the United States. Graduating as an international student at Calvin University, she has a heart for international students, especially those who have multiple places they call “home.” She has graduated with a B.S in Psychology and likes traveling and meeting new people. She also loves drawing, especially cartoon and animation—I bet some of you reading this may also resonate with her!
Advice
Challenge yourselves! I understand that it is hard to try something new that is out of your bubble, out of your comfort zone. It is really scary, and it may feel like everyone is going to judge. BUT don’t be afraid, because you will actually find yourself becoming more confident, more engaged with more friends, and least you will find out what you like or what you don’t like. Attend events, try a leadership position, join a club or two or three, and learn about other people. College is not only for studying or finding a job, but a place where you can grow and figure out who you want to be.
Favorite Spot on Campus
I would say my favorite spots on campus are the dance studio and the conference room in the art department. I love dancing and so I would always be in the studio most of the time during my school years at Calvin with my friends. The conference room is actually kind of hidden and not a lot of people know about it, so I didn’t want to disclose it, but I guess good things are good to share😉. It is a great place to study with crazy, creative, and dynamic art displayed all over the area. If you find it, come give me a high five!
