Bio
Gabbie grew up in Dorr, Michigan and began her collegiate career at Huntington University in Huntington, Indiana. She transferred to Calvin in the fall of ‘23 and graduated May 2025 with a BA in Music Performance (Piano) and a minor in Psychology. Gabbie enjoys being a part of Grand Rapids’ vibrant community – you can find her listening to Jazz in the Park on Mondays, swing dancing on Tuesdays, or enjoying any of the myriads of things to do with her friends! Calvin was a great fit for her, and she wants to help new students find out if it is a great fit for them too!
Advice
Get involved! I don’t know if I’ve ever heard anyone say, “I wish I hadn’t tried that club” or “I wish I had done less”, but I have heard “I wish I had tried that before I graduated” (and I’ve said it!). There is so much to do at Calvin, between intramurals, student orgs, and study abroad opportunities, it would be a shame to miss out. You might meet people you would not have otherwise encountered, and they may become your best friends. You will become a more well-rounded person with a wide set of skills, and you may find a new passion too!
Favorite Spot on Campus
Commons Lawn when it is warm out. There is nothing better than walking to the lawn after class, everyone is out: reading, studying, playing frisbee or spike ball. There is such an atmosphere of community and joy!
Favorite Calvin Memory
Choreographing Guild Grandpa and the subsequent Guild Grandma dance was one of the highlights of my college experience. I had so many great people join those dances, furnished most of the wardrobe from my own closet, and had a great time putting a unique twist to Dance Guild. It was the most fun hearing the audience react to what we were doing!
