Bio

Houston works as the liaison between the Athletics Department and Enrollment Strategy and aims to collaborate with prospective student-athletes and give them the best information and connect them to on-campus resources and faculty to guide them through the college decision-making process. Houston joined Calvin in August 2021 and is originally from the Grand Rapids area. The former East Kentwood Athlete had All-American Honors and several All-State, All-Region, and All-Conference awards in Track and Football. He played football at University at Buffalo, obtained his Bachelor’s in Sociology and African American Studies, and is now pursuing his master's degree at Calvin in Educational Leadership.

Prior to Calvin, Houston served 5 years within Kentwood and Grand Rapids Public Schools in multiple roles such as a Youth Advocate, Middle School Athletic Director, and Head Football Coach while balancing his own personal training business. (2017 – 2021) Most recently, Houston has served as our Admissions Manager of Athletics – D.E.I Engagement and Assistant Track & Field Coach (2021-2022) and wants to continue working with Student-Athletes as he grows in his career. He, his wife Mallory, and their two children Grayson and Nora reside in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Advice

Calvin has amazing opportunities to get involved. Calvin students have dedicated 56,000 hours a year to service-learning opportunities, and it would be a wonderful time to give back to the Grand Rapids Area. Please ask your admissions counselor about ways you can get involved and take a dive into the community.

Favorite Calvin Memory

As a coach, I watched multiple athletes place in the top 3 in the MIAA Conference meet and every single one of them surpassed their personal records for the year. It was amazing to see all their hard work pay off!

Favorite spot on campus:

My favorite spot-on campus is the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Complex, this is where I get to work out, interact with the Athletics Department and play basketball with other faculty and staff members.
