    Bio

Melaina graduated from Calvin University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Communication and a second major in Spanish. Growing up in Byron Center, MI, Calvin wasn’t far from home, but she loved that she could find her own place and community in college. As a student, she participated in Dance Guild (even choreographing her own dance), group fitness, intramurals, and studying abroad. Her favorite activities include golfing, being outside, sewing, and traveling. She loves working with students to find their own passions and see how they can pursue them at Calvin.

    Advice

I encourage students to visit their top schools a second time after applying. Visiting again once you've been admitted can change your whole perspective on a school. It can be easier to get a feel for the campus and whether it feels like home when you see it a second time. This will help narrow down your options to make your final decision.

    Favorite Spot on Campus

My favorite spot on campus is probably the dorm basements. I met and hung out with so many of my friends in the basements. The solarium, the room in the basement with all windows as the ceiling, was my favorite place to study on campus and was always so peaceful, no matter what season. Whether it was watching The Bachelor with all the girls (and some guys) on my floor, playing late night games of Werewolf, or just attempting to study with my friends, I made some of my best memories in the dorm basement.

    Favorite Calvin Memory

I have so many amazing memories from Calvin, but my semester abroad was definitely a highlight! I lived in northern Spain for a semester and learned so much and made so many lifelong friends. I was also able to travel throughout Spain and other parts of Europe, experiencing different cultures and a different side of God’s creation. My semester abroad was a life-changing experience, and I made so many memories that I recommend everyone to study abroad!
