    Communication / Film & Media
“Wonder Woman and the Power of Movies”
We will view and discuss a scene from Wonder Woman (2017) to discover what it is about the movies that makes them so emotionally powerful for such vast audiences. We’ll talk about story, character, image, and sound. And as a different superhero (Peter Parker, or Spiderman) hears from his uncle, “With great power comes great responsibility.” In the Film and Media major here at Calvin University, we teach classes in which students learn not only how to make and analyze films, but also about the ethical responsibilities of filmmakers and critics to their audiences and to the culture at large.

    Psychology
Ever wonder what your brain does when looking at happy or angry faces? Ever wonder how we assess for intelligence without using a paper and pencil test? Ever wonder why you should study psychology? Curious about answers to these questions? Come see our EEG machine, participate in a block design task, listen to current students talk about why they love psychology at Calvin.

    English
Where the Wild Books Are: Encounters with Writers, Then and Now
The English department is a place with a lot of really fabulous (and award-winning) published writers. And it’s definitely a place full of readers. Come learn about our own departmental authors (what they write, how they got published, etc) and the authors that we know and love!
